Footwear

One of the most important aspect of clothing that men should never neglect is the footwear. Shoes are more than just accessories to complement your outfit; they are also a reflection of your self or the mood that you are in at the moment. As author and shoe guru Dona Sozio says, what we choose to express through our shoes is also what we choose to express, or not to express in life and in our romantic relationships.

On the other hand, without regard to this insightful function of shoes, one should always remember that the most essential function of shoes is to protect your feet when walking through the environment, snow, sand and hot surfaces such as the street in the summer. Finding the right shoe that perfectly fit your feet is therefore important.

Getting the right pair…
When choosing for a pair of shoes, the following factors should be considered:

Material – the material you want for your shoes should depend on the type of activity or event you will use the shoes. Leather shoes are appropriate for daily work because they are sturdy and they look more formal. While shoes made of rubber are more preferable for sports activities such as running for they provide more cushion on the feet.

Colour – the colour of your shoes should match, or must be darker than your pants. Black or brown are safer to have for they do match with about any colour. Shoe guru Desiree Stimpert offer the following colour matching guide for men’s shoes:
Black shoes – navy, grey or black pants.

Brown shoes – best suited to pants in tan, brown, beige, greens, other darker earth tones.

Burgundy shoes – khaki, lighter browns, blue and grey pants.

Tan shoes – great with lighter earth tones, blue, beige, lighter tan or white.

Size & fit – before you raid the department store for a pair of shoe, get the length and width of your feet first. Getting the width of your feet is important so as to avoid forcing your feet to fit in a narrow pair. For those with unequal feet size, choosing a pair matching the size of your larger foot is much practical than buying pairs of different sizes. Another option is to order your shoe from manufacturers that sell custom-made shoes.
